Sydney is a vibrant, dazzling city built on one of the most spectacular harbours in the world. It is a city of fresh air and bold colours, skyscrapers and yachts. Blessed by nature and quite aware of its charms, Sydney is both alluring and as recognizable as a picture postcard.

Sydney’s climate is one of its biggest assets. For most of the year residents and visitors alike enjoy the outdoor lifestyle the city is famous for. Many of Sydney’s top attraction are to be found around the Harbour from Taronga Zoo and Sydney Opera House to the Royal Botanic Gardens and Darling Harbour.

Sydney is also spoilt for choice when it comes to beaches. Bondi- Australia’s most famous stretch of sand and surf – is just 30 minutes by bus from the city centre. The best things in Sydney – the beach, the mountains, the surf and the harbor they are all free for anyone to enjoy and have fun.

Opera House was desinged by Danish Architect Jorn Utzon and constructed between 1959 and 1973.

Though comparatively young as cities go, Sydney has rich and fascinating history. Indigenous people have lived in the area for over thousands of years leaving behind dozens of ancient Aboriginal cultural sites.

European settlement began in 1770 when Captain James Cook landed in Botany Bay, claiming the east coast of Australia for Great Britain. The transportation of convicts which followed resulted in the gritty, colourful history that today is waiting to be rediscovered in Sydney’s Museum.

Sydney has come a long way from its convict beginnings but it still has a rough and ready energy which makes it an exciting place to visit. It offers an invigorating blend of the old and the new, the raw and the refined. You can explore the historic Rocks area in the morning, then ride in the monorail to ultramodern Darling Harbour in the afternoon.

Sydney above all is an outdoor city. Everyone seems to be doing something, whether it’s yacht racing on the harbor, bushwalking in the Blue mountains or body surfing at Bondi Beach.

This is a city rich with natural assets, with its sparkling harbour waters, cosmopolitan culture and interesting history. Sydney is a city with plenty to enjoy.

I have been to Australia for a month. I spent about a week in Sydney. I had a great walk: starting from George Street, I went upto the Rocks and continued to Sydney Harbor Bridge, Opera House, Botanical Gardens and well into North Shore.

Thanks for reviving my memories.

Very interesting and informative Hub on Sydney...Don't forget the great wine growing areas in Hunter Valley where some of the world's most delectable Shiraz is produced...There's a place in downtown Sydney where you can taste many of the different wine offerings from Hunter Valley...I forget the name...My sister was there several years ago and is still raving about the beauty and friendly ambiance she experienced while there...Thank you for this...Larry
