I find birds fascinating to watch, one day I would like to capture their flight perfectly on my camera.

Photographing bird is a challenge, they are very quick to respond to the slightest hint of danger. It is hard to get close to them to get a good photo, I like to effectively freeze the action but once the bird heard a noise they quickly disappear. Opportunity and chance plays an important role in bird photography, you have to be in the right place at the right time.

Even though photographing birds is a real challenge and gives a lot of frustrations it can be very rewarding, once you download your images to your computer and it turns out the way you want it or sometimes you will be just be amazed and surprise on what you have captured.

According to the expert the the most important tools for photographing birds are telephoto lenses with focal lengths of between 300 and 600 mm. At the moment I only have a point and shoot digital camera, which does not allow me to have all the technical aspect to freeze the action that will give me a chance to get a really good shoots that professional photographers talk about to get those winning calendar bird shoots.

Birds can be fast and you therefore going to need a fast shutter speed . I could not afford those expensive photography tools yet, but I am happy with what I got so far and it is not bad at all with the photos that I have taken, but I think I need those lenses if I am really serious in my photography hobby.

Ducks at Nepean River

"Photographing birds requires a lot of patience, the techniques needs some practice."

Yes it is true, I took the photo above at Nepean River, I have to wait for the ducks to come a bit nearer and I watch them very closely through my viewfinder I took a lot of shots, they move so slow and I am getting a bit frustrated and tired of waiting to get a good shoot. But I waited patiently and got this shot.

I think one of the best lessons that I have learned in photography is it takes patience and practice, don't give up and get creative and remember about camera positioning. And don't forget to enjoy your time while doing photography

I Love to look at animals. Each shot is a pose like animals telling us how about me too. Those were awsome photos.

Considering the fact that you hv used a 'point&shoot' digital camera, you hv got quite good result !

I believe you had some disappointing shots too ! What wd say is yr average ratio of good:not-so-good shots ?
